IT Governance metrics overview
IT Governance is described as the structure of relationships and processes to direct and control the enterprise in order to achieve the entity's goals by adding value while balancing risk with the return on IT and its processes. So how does one measure IT Governance?
There are a number of approaches, each with its advantages and disadvantages. CobiT provides three additional approaches to that of Risk management.
Firstly, based on its set of best practice, it is possible to audit and measure the degree of compliance to generally accepted Control criteria. Alternatively, an evaluation of the Maturity of each IT process can be performed. Thirdly, using the Balanced Business Scorecard, it is possible to establish whether IT is enabling business by delivering the information business needs.
Any one, or more of these techniques will provide a useful insight into the state of an entity's IT governance.
